DRIFT HD: FMX DOUBLE BACKFLIP WITH JOSH SHEEHAN

A Drift HD action camera has now shot it’s first double back flip with the help of Drift sponsored FMX rider, Josh Sheehan.

Check out the video here

After an injury-shortened season, Drift team rider and Red Bull sponsored, Josh Sheehan, made his way to Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour for the final stop of the Red Bull X Fighters Freestyle Motocross World Tour on October 10th 2012. Josh placed 1st in the final at this stop last year against the Kiwi, Levi Sherwood.

Despite the weather delaying the morning practice, the Aussie favourite came out all guns blazing with the double back flip and progressed to the semi-final against Levi Sherwood. He caught all the footage of his best run on his Drift HD helmet camera. Check out the Drift helmet cam footage and see what it looks like to land a double backflip here!

“The course was tight but fun with a lot of jump options,” said Sheehan. “The tricks being thrown down were amazing, from front flips and body varials to 540’s off the quarter pipe.”

The semi-finals seemed to be going smoothly for Sheehan, but unfortunately he crashed on his final trick of the run.

“I felt okay but unfortunately ended up crashing the final trick in my run, the ruler flip. I was happy with the 3rd place after a slow recovery from injury.”

Sheehan’s adrenaline filled final run included tricks such as the cliff hanger, cordova flip, lazyboy flip, ruler flip and the insane double back flip. We’d like to congratulate Josh Sheehan on his awesome run and for placing 3rd In the competition.

Recommended New Software to Bookmark your Video Highlights on The Go

Editing long streams of video can almost take the fun out of using your helmet cam as you spend hours and hours trying to pin point the awesome shots out of your full day’s adventure. Well, we’ve found an awesome solution to this problem! Our friends at Highlight Hunter have developed a software to alleviate this problem altogether.

The way it works is simple – as you’re riding along, if something AWESOME happens then straight afterwards simply cover the camera lens for a second. Do this for all your highlights through the day. Later on when you download the video into the FREE Highlight Hunter software then it will automatically pick up all these “black outs” when you covered the lens. It will then cut 30 seconds before the black out BOOM – your video is edited! The best ideas in the world are the simplest!

Happy filming (and editing!)

Ensure you have the latest firmware on your Drift HD

Continually checking out for new firmware is a great way to get free “upgrades” to your camera without paying anything extra. Drift is always working to improve their cameras and a ton of upgrades can be added to your camera by simply downloading the latest firmware.

Here’s the instructions on how to do the upgrade:

  1. Download only the latest version of the firmware (below).
  2. Copy the downloaded file to the root of an empty and formatted SD card. Do not rename the file (Important.)
  3. Insert the SD card into the camera and power on the camera. Ensure the camera has sufficient power so the upgrade doesn’t fail half way.
  4. Select the version number item in the Setup menu (last item) and confirm.
  5. Cursor to the check mark and select to confirm.
  6. The LED on camera will show “Wait for FW update” during the process. Once complete camera will turn off.
  7. Turn the camera back on and verify that the firmware version has been updated.
  8. Reformat your SD card again within the camera Tools Settings.

Mac users with Safari – if you have problems downloading the file, please right click on the link and select the option ‘Download Linked File’ to save the wanted firmware.

LATEST VERSION 1.1.28 (3 Feb. 2012) Add 1 min option on timelapse photo. Ignore LCD off timer during playback. Improve audio sync. No beep sound when speaker is set to mute. More smooth AE changes under 720p 50/60 fps.

Ensure that the upgrade process is not interrupted. If the process is interrupted the firmware on the camera may be corrupted and the camera has to be returned to the factory for repair.
